same text in multiple table cells (Word 2002)

I have a table into which I am pasting data.
I'm trying to paste a line of text with spaces from one cell into multiple cells in the same table- for example a date such as " 15 Oct 08 "-
When I copy the text from one cell in the table and paste that line of text into the multiple cells in the table I only get the first part of the line of text before the space -15-
I can paste into a single cell but not more than 1 cell.

there must be some sort of break or something I need to place between each section of the text where the spaces are?

    What am I missing?

Word may not understand that you want it to interpret the space as a delimiter -- spaces are not the usual character to split text between cells. If you temporarily replace the spaces in the source with tabs (press Ctrl+Tab), does the paste across multiple cells work? Problem is, even if it does, that's not very convenient.

I'm not sure how best to address this problem. Sometimes when you use "Table > Convert > Text to Table", the delimiter selection is "sticky." You could try running that function on some throwaway text, using a space delimiter, and see if Word remember that when you go to paste the date.

Selecting cells within a column (or selecting an entire column) and pasting appears to work correctly, so perhaps you could use that?

    Well
what worked was to copy more than one cell in a column and then paste it to to multiple cells in the same column.
For some reason copying a single cell and pasting to multiple cells seems to confuse Word and only the first section of text before a break is pasted.
I vaguely recall encountering this problem a few years ago and solving it by placing some sort of marker/holder between the text where the spaces are and then copying and pasting.

My mind has not retained that info.

    Hi

No replacing the spaces with tabs (added via Ctrl + Tab) adds another line to the cell which is undesired.
But I think the tab idea is along the right line.
Is there another way to do it?

I finally figured out what I had to do make text with spaces from within a
single cell paste completely into mutliple cells after copying.
At each space I had to insert a non breaking space via Ctrl + Shift + space.

So in the example given one enters:

    15 Ctrl + Shift + space Oct Ctrl + Shift + space 08

If this is typed instead of simply space
then when you copy the text it will
paste accurately and completely into as many cells as you desire.
