    'The Old Clunker'

For Woody to comment that the current Lounge is an "old clunker" seems to me to be both unnecessarily and unfairly dismissive of the efforts of all involved in keeping it going over the years in a very usable form (Mike, Claude and the other Admins, plus other unsung heroes, no doubt), to say nothing of Eileen who heavily modified the original software to make it what it is.

I reckon it still works pretty well, most of the time, and I extend my thanks to all those who have worked on it, usually with few thanks and much being-complained-at when unhappiness occasionally occurred...

Well said Batcher... allow me to echo your thoughts and words.

I for one certainly appreciate the unsung efforts of Mike, Claude and ALL the Admins in keeping <img src=/S/eileen.gif border=0 alt=eileen width=17 height=15>'s baby running.

I wanted to comment on your post. I agree with it and am pleased you posted it. I like our current software even if it isn't as efficient as the "new stuff" is supposed to be. There is something special about our current Lounge and I really hate to see it come to an end. If I could figure out a way to save all of the lounge I would - but it isn't a reasonable project to contemplate. I can only save a few of the most interesting threads in their current form and forget the rest. Too bad too. I guess time marches on...... I reckon it is the people who visit the Lounge that give this place on the web the friendly feeling that I look forward to. Hopefully that will continue! <img src=/S/thumbup.gif border=0 alt=thumbup width=15 height=15>

    Here, Here!!

As we step into a brand new lounge, I have feelings of excitement, and also sadness! Out with the old, and in with the new... Whilst I will embrace the changes, I must admit, I will miss this place!!!! THERE IS NO OTHER PLACE LIKE IT!

All of the existing threads are being migrated to the new lounge, I don't think we will lose anything significant.

Far from being unfair I think Woody's comments underline just what a great job our Administrators do, despite having an "old clunker" to work with. Let's hope it's going to be much easier for them in the future.

    Re: 'The Old Clunker'

I'm certain that Woody appreciates the efforts of Eileen, Claude et al - it's just his writing style.

But the current software is very demanding on the hardware, and it has become really difficult to maintain. We've been wanting to move to more modern software for a long time, but we lacked the necessary resources and know-how, so we're very happy that the Windows Secrets team has offered to help us with that.

We all will to have get used to the "new" Lounge - the old one is like a worn but very comfortable jacket, the new one will feel a bit stiff at first. But Tony Johnston and Ryan Biesemeyer have done a fantastic job - you'll find all the old forums, posts, PMs etc. in the new Lounge. And there are very good new features.

Yes, I understand that we won't lose any data or at least that is the hope. But since I am sentimental, I want to keep a few threads with the ambience that we currently have. I am looking forward to the "new home place" but I hope there is some way we can make it uniquely "ours"? <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>

Is it too late to ask for a new forum? (grin!)

It is 8:45 a.m. EST here, and I understand that The Switchover will begin around 4pm my time (in the Centre of the Known Universe(tm)), so I'll take this opportunity to post best wishes and I pray, the minimal amount of hassles in Moving House tonight. And although I hope to thank you on the "other side", I'll post a THANKS here in anticipation.

What will the rest of you all be doing after 4pm? I'm picking up a 4-litre tub of Butterscotch Ripple on the way how, and chilling out, so to speak!

P.S. I move we have a moritorium on complaints for seven days.

Are you in the UK at the moment? We'll start moving the Lounge at 16:00 GMT/UTC, that is 11:00 in Toronto!

    Whaaaaaatttttt?!!???!!!!

    STOP THE PRESSES.

How am I supposed to function without the Lounge???????

My world has just come crashing down around me.

    (recovers a little bit ....)
    OK.
Best wishes to you all (sob!). I shall miss the little Ghanian flags .....
... and will observe a moment's silence at 11:00 a.m. local time. Not difficult to do, since I am the sole inhabitant of this Dilbertical cubicle in the vast edifice out here in the steppes of North-Western Mississauga ("Ontario L5N 6L7, Canada" in Google Earth, if you have nothing better to do .....)

    Re: 'The Old Clunker'

I notice that the Lounge link from the new Ask Woody site has disappeared today. I assume that this is a temporary removal in anticipation of the move <img src=/S/question.gif border=0 alt=question width=15 height=15>

Best of luck in the move to the new Lounge... and don't be working around the clock to fine tune the conversion. We can wait!!! <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>

    See you in the new world. <img src=/S/music.gif border=0 alt=music width=97 height=29>
