How do you delete entries from the windows explorer shell. When I right click on folder icon I get a list of possible actions ... virus scan, open with xxx, etc. Which is fine. But there are a couple of entries there for programs which were uninstalled from the computer some time ago. I cannot find any registry entries that reference the software or the shell entry. (Windows 2000-SP4)

No reference to this particular software in either of those locations.

Have you done a search of the entire registry using the F3 function after typing regedit into the Run box ??

Yep. Done that too, with every variation I can think of from the line I want to take out of the shell drop down menu. If it is there, it has a non intuitive name/reference.

You can try using ShellExView - Shell Extension Manager For Windows. It is free and should work on Win2k.

Good suggestion. Unfortunately, I still couldn't track down the entry. Maybe I'm just stuck with an extra line or two in the menu.

Can you tell us what the specific entries are ?? Perhaps that would shed some light on a fix.

OK. The entry I'm trying to delete is ... "Scan directory with etrust pestpatrol". Clicking on that brings up the windows error message that there is no program associated etc. etc. Because the program/software is long gone from the computer. Crazy, huh?

If Joe's suggestion doesn't work, you might have to re-install the program and disable that function and then remove the program again. From here....

"By default, PestPatrol adds an option to the Explorer context menu where if you right-click a folder, the option "Scan Directory with PestPatrol" appears. If you wish to disable this context menu, or if it has been removed on your system and you wish to re-enable it, do the following from within PestPatrol:

    1. Click the "Options" tab.

    2. Click the "Automatic Scans" sub-tab.

    3. Underneath "Right Click to Scan Folders", click the "Enable" or "Disable" radio button as desired."

Doc Watson ... the suggestion was good. I had thought of reinstalling the program, but I don't have my original install files. Went to website and it seems like pestpatrol only wants to sell. No evaluation version/time. I found a "trial version" on another site but it only scans, does not have option to make settings, or clear up settings. So I guess I'm back at square one. ... Somewhere the info is stored in this computer because it shows up when I right click on any folder icon. ... It's not that big a deal, I guess, just an extra line or so in the menu. Just a little frustrating / annoying.
