I consider the words 'Loungers' and 'Friends' to be synonymous. I am also ignorant of the consequences of adding one of the Loungers to my 'Friends List'. Can someone point me in the direction of information on the topic of 'Friends' as applicable to the Lounge.
    Many thanks in advance.
    Regards

Ya know Don, I've done a bit of Googling on that question on and off since we started testing the new Lounge software and I haven't yet found an answer to "what is it for." And I've been using IP.Board in my Googling to see if I could find some definition written by them.

However, some of my Lounge Admin "friends" have pointed out that having someone on your friends list makes it easier to send a PM to that friend. You simply click the Friends link in the top navigation bar and the little envelope by your friend and bingo, a PM window opens.

To make it personal, I just added you to my Friends list, so you may get notified of that, depending on your Profile settings. Now that you're on my friends list, this graphic shows what I see when I click Friends on the nav bar.

    Don,
The advantage (and the ONLY advantage that I can see) of adding someone to your Friends list is that you can more easily send a PM to a friend. If you have added names to your Friends list, then simply click "Friends" in the menu bar and a "Friends List" window opens. Then all you have to do is click on the envelope icon opposite the appropriate "friend" to send a PM.

oops - I see that Al beat me to the punch!

I have a feeling the ideas put forward by Rebel and Big Al are just a practical solution put together by the friend phenomenon that is now found on a lot of Social Networking sites, the classic examples of this are Facebook and MSN groups.

When I first saw this on this site I smiled inwardly as I knew this would bring a lot of questions about what is its purpose and it just comes down to social networking on line. I am always amused when a young colleague says "I have 230 friends on Facebook", yes you hear cynical comedians mention this when we actually know they are not "real" or tangible friends but a group of like minded people who are grouped.

This board is a specialised grouping already, we are a group of individuals who enjoy computing in all its forms and share our knowledge of the subject. I have only added WMVP, Admin and Mods to my friends list so I am able to communicate quicker

Thank you Al; John; and Jerry

The penny just dropped. It replaces the Address Book from the message centre on the old Lounge.
