Re: Clip Gallery error (WinME, O2K)

Looks like there are several potential issues.

One fix is to find and run the file artgalry.exe so that it registers itself properly.

Another is to install SR-1 (do you have that?).

Others are related to having other programs installed.

Here's how I searched: I went to http://search.support.microsoft.com/kb/c.asp?. I searched "All Microsoft Products" and typed "error in artgalry" into the keywords.

    Hi Pierson

I do have SR-1 already (sorry, I meant to put that in but must have forgotten - I'll amend my original post).

I'll try the artgalry.exe bit tonight (it's on my home machine) and see how it goes.

    Thanks for the suggestions!

Clip Gallery error (WinME, O2K SR-1)

I have just upgraded to O2K (literally last weekend!) and I was using the clip gallery when I got an error message along the lines of "MRC42.dll has caused an error in artgalry. Artgalry will now close. If you continue to have problems try restarting your machine." I did, and I did (continue to have problems and restart the machine). Several times. It still crashes everytime I try to use it.

I've tried using the Repair option on the Setup CD - twice - but nothing seems to help, and I can't find anything in the MSKB. The only thing I've done with the clip gallery (apart from try to use it!) was import some clips from another Office CD - they seemed to come in OK and showed up quite happily in the categories - is this likely to have upset it?

Any suggestions would be appreciated - I didn't really use the clip gallery in previous versions and don't know much about it ...

Re: Clip Gallery error (WinME, O2K)

Well, I tried the artgalry.exe bit and it didn't work. Leastways, it worked, but it didn't solve the problem!

Strangely, I tried completely uninstalling Office, rebooting and then reinstalling it, and not only did it remember all my personalisations (and the fact that it was going to crash whenever I tried to use Clip Gallery) but it even retained the extra categories and clips I had added to the gallery!

Does this mean there is a file somewhere that contains this information I need to delete? Or (as I suspect is more likely) am I going to have to delve into the registry? I hope not - I'm not afraid of it, but I'm certainly not looking forward to doing it either! - but if it does, could someone tell me exactly what I need to do to clean it up?

BTW, I used to use a program called Regclean in an older version of Windows - does anyone know if (1) the old program would work in WinME, (2) if not, is there a more recent version and (3) if so, where would I find it, please?

    Many thanks in advance

I'm sorry, Beryl. I wish I'd said something. After uninstalling Office (97 or 2K, no matter why you're reinstalling), you ought to use a program called Eraser.

Check my link, but make sure it's good for Me, ok?

Re: Clip Gallery error (WinME, O2K)

Hi Pierson, thanks for that, it takes a load off my mind! I really was not looking forward to hacking the registry ...

After following a link from your link I found a comment at the bottom of the page that an update made on 20 April added support for WinME, so that's fine. I'll do it tonight.

    Many thanks for your help!
