freezing screen during "refresh all" (excel 2000)

I've written a long and complicated worksheet , which involves pulling large large amounts of data from an oracle database using the "ActiveWorkbook.RefreshAll" option as part of a macro. I would like to freeze the screen until all the data is retrieved (using Application.ScreenUpdating = False), however , as soon as the macro runs the "refresh all" it carries on it's merry way and unfreezes the screen before the data is refreshed.
I've tried using the "wait" option but that just seems to freeze the computer.
Does anyone out there know how to tell the macro to pause until all the data has been retrieved before unfreezing the screen?
    Thanks a lot

See if you can do something with the BackgroundQuery property (try setting it to true). See OLH for details.
