    Problem pasting from Word 2000 into AOL 6.0 (Word 2000 SR-1a )

Hi. Has anyone else had problems copying from Word 2000 SR-1a into AOL 6.0? I have had to funnel the text through WordPad to get proper text copying. Otherwise, words are run together, every quotation mark comes out as a command (I can't show the command in this message because it's translated back into a quotation mark) - it's a mess.

Going in the other direction, I'm fine just choosing Edit/Paste Special in Word...

    Your advice and experience will be much appreciated! <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>

Unfortunately, it is a "feature" of Word and Windows clipboard that when you copy from Word and paste into an HTML mail editor, Word dictates an HTML-coded format. I'm not aware of any way around this, other than, as you have ascertained, first pasting in a plain text editor and then copying again.

Well, you could create a little macro in Word to simply place the selected text on the clipboard without preserving the formatting. This would do it:

    <pre>Sub CopyPlain()
'set a reference under Tools to Microsoft Forms 2.0 Object Library
    If Selection.Type = wdSelectionNormal Then
    Dim doClip As DataObject
Set doClip = New DataObject 'instantiate DataObject
doClip.SetText Selection.Text, 1 'set dataobject to selected text
    doClip.PutInClipboard 'transfer contents to clipboard
Set doClip = Nothing 'clear object
    Else
MsgBox "Please select some text before trying again."
    End If
    End Sub</pre>

You then could assign a convenient keystroke to it... Hope this helps.

Thank you very much, jscher2000. Your macro works!

As a macro newbie, I tried first using the Record feature; then the macro simply copied its own text whenever I activated it (using Ctrl-Shift-C). So I erased CopyPlain and started over in Visual Basic.

I appreciate your very creative solution to my problem, and just learned how to use Tools/Customize to assign the keystroke combination to the macro that way, instead of using the Macro Recorder. <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>

I'm trying to use your code in Outlook. But it says that Dataobject is an invalid type. I figured this is probably because I don't have a reference to Microsoft Forms 2.0 object library. The problem is, this file is not in my list of references. Do i need to add this file myself somehow?
