Filename field changes during merge (Word 97 SR 2)

I have documents with a footer where the Filename field is used to show the current filename. When we use these documents in a merge using INCLUDETEXT, the Filename changes to the filename of the form. Is there a way for the Filename field to stay the same?

    Thanks,

I'm somewhat surprised that INCLUDETEXT even brings in the footer!

So long as this continues to act as a field, it will do what fields are supposed to do - update to account for changes in its environment. You could either lock the field (Ctrl-3) or unlink it altogether (change it to text) (Ctrl-6).

You might want to lock it and have a macro / toolbar button combination in the included document's template that unlocks the field, updates it, and relocks it. You could even call that macro in the template's AutoOpen macro.

For more on fields, follow the links at <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.addbalance.com/word/wordwebresources.htm#Fields> Web Resources - Fields</A>.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks Chas!

I am really getting the hand of it.
