Every time I shut down I hear a sound and a message flashes across the monitor that I can't read. It goes by to fast but in order to see what it says the message must stop so I can try and fix what ever it's talking about.

I tried using the Pause/Break key but it didn't stop or I didn't do it soon enough. I see Scrlk on the side of that key. Do I have to use the Shift key to use that same button?

    Thanks for any help.

I suspect that something is being closed down 'untidily' and asking if you are sure you want to exit.

I doubt if Scroll Lock is going to stop the Shutdown process. Is this something that has recently started happening? Have you installed any new software recently that is running in the background?

I don't think that could be the reason because I did catch the word dll as it flashed by.
It started about 7 days ago and I have not installed anything new recently.

This could be some program that does not respond quickly enough when the system is shutting down. It could also be something more significant. You are not going to be able to stop the system during this shutdown process.

Unless you can tell us more about the message there is no way to determine anything else. Have you checked the System Event Log?
