A while ago I made a PDF document out of one of my Word files using CutePDF. I had to change the printer in the "name" box in the printer dialogue box to CutePDF. I haven't printed anything since. Now I went to print and nothing happened when I pressed Ctrl-P. Going to start\printers, when I click on Add Printer, I get the error message: "The local print spooler service is not running. Please retart the spooler and restart the machine." I did a google on print spooler sevice, followed the advice in one of the forum threads on how to restart the spooler, and then the Ctrl-P brought up the printer dialogue box. Now, when I went to print a file, I get the message that there is a printer problem: either the printer isn't available (it shows in start\printers), it's not the default (which it is) or I have to uninstall the printer driver and reinstall the latest version. How do I do that?

thanks. I did all that. It still wouldn't work. I finally contacted HP (my printer people), they had me go through those same steps up to Add a local printer. I get a window with 2 choices: "use an exiting port (LPT1) with a drop down arrow; or "create a new port." They then had me choose USB 001 or USB Virtual printer port 001 in the drop down list, and then everything proceded fine from then on.

So the problem is not resolved. Every time I come back to print again, after a few days, the same problem happens and I have to go through the same routine, namely: when I pressed Ctrl-P, nothing happened. Going to start\printers, when I click on Add Printer, I get the error message: "The local print spooler service is not running. Please retart the spooler and restart the machine."
I start the print spooler, and then the Ctrl-P brings up the printer dialogue box. Now, when I go to print a file, I get the message that there is a printer problem: either the printer isn't available (it shows in start\printers), it's not the default (which it is) or I have to uninstall the printer driver and reinstall the latest version.
HP chat service told me to do the following:
    Start>Control Panel> Printers.
Click on Add a local printer in the window that pops up.
Choose USB 001 or USB Virtual printer port 001 int eh drop down list, click next.
Select HP and Deskjet 3920, click next
    Select “Replace the current driver.’
When I do all those things the printer prints fine.
But then when I come back after a few days, the same thing happens all over again. Does anyone know if there something I can do so that it is fixed once and for all?
