If I open a office file through file open in microsoft office suite then all okay.
If however I am in windows explorer or if I try to open an attachment in vista mail, then windows says that it can't find the file and gives the full path of the file.
This is not the case with say a pdf file which loads just fine through explorer, vista mail, or through adobe program itself.
    Any thoughts, Thanks

Try saving the attachment to hard disk first, then open the saved version. This is safer anyway.

If this happens when you double click a file in Windows Explorer then your file associations must be wrong.
Try the fix documented in MSKB article 950368 and if that doesn't work try doing a repair installation of Office.
