I am having a problem with Windows Explorer. It crashes if I (1) right click on a file, (2) click edit/copy (3) hit delete key on a highlighted file or (4) type control+C. The debugged error message is:

Unhandled exception at 0x04118753 in explorer.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation reading location 0xffffffff.

The only system change was to remove Norton Anti-Virus and install Norton Internet Security. If I disable Norton on starting, the problem remains.

Am I best off getting the Windows XP install disk and doing a repair?

    Thanks.

Do you have SP-3 installed? Is your system up-to-date with patches? Is your video driver up-to-date?

Also, if I try to delete a file or directory from within a program; e.g. Excel, the program crashes.

Did the system ever work correctly after the NIS install?
