Combo box labels visibility on forms (2k)

I have a form(frmFilter, see attachment) with 5 combo boxes whose labels are directly underneath (and the same size as) the combo boxes. If, e.g., I move the label(Label5) associated with the Filter3 combo box away from Filter3 and then go into Form View, the caption(Combo4: ) of the label appears on the form. If I then select Label5, select the Menu command: Format, Bring to Front and position Label5 back onto the Filter3 combo box I would expect the label caption to appear superimposed on Filter3 once in Form View.
    Why isn't it so?

I don't understand why you would *want* it to overlay the combobox or why you put the label under (or on top of) the combox in the first place. If you want a label visible, you position it so that it isn't obscured. Normally, labels that are attached to controls transfer the focus to their parent controls when you click the label. What are you actually trying to accomplish? If you want a label on top of a combobox, use a detached label.

Re: Combo box labels visibility on forms (2k)

The labels associated with the combo boxes on the form got put under(or over?) the combo boxes by chance: I used Format, Size and Format, Align for the combo boxes and buttons on frmFilter once I created them and didn't realize the associated labels(being transparent) were placed in the same spot as the combo boxes. This spurred my curiosity as to whether Access allows combo boxes to be superimposed by labels.

    <img src=/w3timages/greenline.gif width=33% height=2><img src=/w3timages/greenline.gif width=33% height=2><img src=/w3timages/greenline.gif width=33% height=2>
If you want a label on top of a combobox, use a detached label.
    <img src=/w3timages/greenline.gif width=33% height=2><img src=/w3timages/greenline.gif width=33% height=2><img src=/w3timages/greenline.gif width=33% height=2>
But even if I create a detached label(Label13, see attachment) and move it over a combo box in Design View, when I shift to Form View the label disappears from view.
The strange thing is that if I do the same thing with the Label5 attached to the Filter3 combo box(see attachment), this time the part of the label that's not over the combo box shows.
Do you have an explanation for this difference in behavior between attached and detached labels?
    Ciao

If you change the borders of the labels to 'solid', you will see that bound and unbound labels act the same.
Its is just the text of the label that disappear, but the label rectangle is wider and the border is transparent so you don't see it.

When there are others who can answer your questions, there isn't any need for me to participate. None of has the time to answer all the questions, so we have to share the load.
