After experimenting with running an older application in compatibility mode then uninstalling the application, I got a warning that essential windows files had been uninstalled (not an exact quote) please insert XP Pro SP2 disc. I inserted the disc and the issue appears to be fixed. Everything seems to be running fine even after cold re-booting. The one apparent annoyance is that my screen resolution is too coarse, icons too large, etc.
When I go into properties, it says it is set for 32-bit and 1024 x 768. I guess it was set for a higher resolution before, but there doesn't appear to be a higher option (?)
I can certainly limp along in this mode, but I would like to restore the resolution it to whatever it was before.
Any help would be welcomed.
