As I understand it, the Media Player (12) is built into Windows 7, so if anything needs fixing, all you can do is "fix Windows."

But I see no Repair option in the beta. Am I looking in the wrong place?

I booted from the DVD but saw nothing but "Upgrade" which incidentally didn't work.

    ?

    Regards,
    Chuck Billow

    Chuck,
This is a pre release BETA, not a full blown FINAL version and here you are tearing it apart, trying to do what?

Now Bob, be nice! I know that I tend to get overly-active...but not THIS time.

I'm getting errors when I try to open (some) wmv files, which are, I believe, played my the Media Player. And this being a beta, I was prepared for the fact that it could have problems -- but I would like to fix them!

    Regards,
    Chuck

It could be that the beta does not have a repair option. You might have to start from scratch. But before you do that

What are the specific errors you get?

    Joe:

Whenever I try to play WMV files -- several, which work if I use another play -- I get the error below.

Joe, not on-topic, but how come 9 times out of ten when I hit reply and the post, the brackets/parens don't match up right, and I have to go through and delete some -- like there's some type of "folding code" error...?

Well it just may be that the files are NOT 1000% compatible.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

There seems to be some issue when the post has a quoted post in it already. This is a known situation.

For right now, you just have to do the editing.

    Chuck,

The error only occurs when the post you are replying to has a quote with no text in it, like this one.

    Dave / Joe:

    I amend that last statement:

WMV files that I find on my system (part of the install -- not mine) do seem to play visually, but do not seem to have sound associated with them.

WMV files I have received from others (trusted sources) do play in both Quicktime and Winamp.

And actually Dave, I've been trying to make changes [this time] only after checking an install or change "thoroughly", although THAT is a misnomer, because, without waiting days if not weeks, it would be near-impossible to cover all the possible combinations of events that could occur in even a "normal working day."

    Chuck
