    Woody, April 5, recommends:
"Apply all outstanding patches except 951847 and 960715, and watch out for other problems".
But, quite recently, just a few days ago, the warning was about
    KB 958690, 960225, and 959772.
I'm confused. If anyone could harmonize these two recommendations,
    I'd be grateful.

I'd simply install all of them, and if you experience any problems (which is unlikely), uninstall them one by one from theAdd or Remove Software control panel use, or use the restore point automatically set by Microsoft Update to go back.

Well, a few days can make a huge difference.

There's a balance between monitoring recommendations after allowing time for testing, thereby minimizing potential functionality problems, and the convenience and safety of using automatic updates. In an earlier age when the internet was less hostile, it was more practical to monitor AskWoody's advice on patches before installing them. However, with the increasingly rapid spread of malware and spyware, and the significant improvements in Microsoft testing, most people now would be safer using automatic updates and then checking AskWoody to learn about and share any problems that arise after patching, rather than waiting for a patch to be fully vetted.

    Thanks for those contributions.
(And, I guess Woody was probably listing some old ones
that he's still leery of, and implying that the recent ones
should be installed at this point.)
