I read a recent post about customizing default workbooks. I have tried saving a customized book.xlt and sheet.xlt (11x17 paper, landscape, fit to 1 x1, header and footer) in both xl start and the templates folder. But when I do Control N, I get the old settings. Can this be done in Office 2003? TYIA

They default templates Book.xlt and Sheet.xlt should be stored in your Excel startup folder. By default, this is

    C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Microsoft\Excel\XLStart

but you can specify an alternate path in the General tab of Tools | Options in Excel, in the "At startup, open all files in" box.

Did you quit and restart Excel after saving the default templates?

Have you really saved them as templates, not just renamed .xls files to .xlt?
