I was on this board the last couple days about the Windows Media Player. I found the culprit.

I use (or did use) a product from Farstone called VirtualDrive. It lets me make images of CDs and then access them directly off the hard drive.

It ran fine under Vista, and runs under Windows 7 as well, except that it somehow trashes the Windows Media Player.

I have a note on their board, but no answer or info as yet. Since it caused me to re-install and set up Windows 7 3 times (at last count), at least now I know what caused it.

    Any info would be appreciated.

    Regards,
    Chuck Billow

It is probably due to it installing a driver that needs to be updated for Windows 7. When you installed it did you run the installer as administrator?

I don't know that if you ae installing a driver you want to run in any compatibility mode.

Are you running 32-bit or 64-bit Windows 7?

It's 32-bit Joe. I've got a note into those guys as well. Nothing as yet.

They got back to me: it's NOT compatible with Win 7.

Any ideas of a prog for creating virtual disks from CD's so that they are readable that'll work in Win 7 would be a help.

    Thanks,
    Chuck

You'll probably have to wait until closer to actual release. By then maybe it will be updated for Win7 or some other program will pop up.
