    For example I want to use the same range name "retrieve" for sheet1,sheet2,sheet3,sheet4,etc. For this example the cell range is A150.

    Unfortunately everytime I try to do this it overwrites the previous range with the new tab name.

    Prefix the name with the name of the sheet followed by an exclamation mark, e.g. create Sheet1!Retrieve, Sheet2!Retrieve etc.

    BTW, Jan Karel Pieterse's excellent free Name Manager add-in lets you toggle a name between global and local (to a single sheet) with a click of the mouse.
