I don't know anything about these things but I just saw a news article that says that Windows 7 owners will be able to run applications designed for Windows XP in a virtual machine. I upgraded to Vista Home Basic and lost the ability to use 2 of my programs that only could work on XP. Is there some way I can run those programs on a virtual machine?

Vista Home Basic is NOT supported as a host operating system with Microsoft's Virtual PC. See Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 System Requirements for more details. Home Basic is supported as a host OS by Vmware's Workstation. See Resources for VMware Workstation - VMware for more details.

Have you tried running the XP programs in compatability mode in Vista?
