I want to build a catalog of my collection of various periodicals (magazines, if you like). I have several magazine titles to catalog. The job would be relatively simple if all the titles had been released, say, monthly. However, various titles have publication dates that cross over from one year to the next. For example, "MyMagazine" may have issues dated as follows:

    Title: MyMagazine
    Date: October 2008

    Title: MyMagazine
    Date: December 2008-January 2009

    I've built the following tables:
Magazine titles so I don't have to store a single title more than once.
    .
    Months (January, February, March...)
    Years (2005, 2006, 2007....

OK...now what? I sense that I'll need a query to make this work well, but I can't lay it out in my mind.

Is it really important for you to know that a specific issue of a magazine is from December 2008-January 2009? Would it be sufficient to store this issue under December 2008, or does that cause problems?

I had actually thought of doing that. What sort of entanglements might I run into if I pursue my original plan?

You'd haved to create a table in which each record is an issue of a magazine, with a unique record ID (for example an AutoNumber field).
And another table that has a record for each month+year for an issue. There would be a single record for the majority of issues, but two records for those issues that span two months.
