    window size and placement

how do I control the size and placement of a window when I open it by clicking or doubleclicking a file or icon? I know the desktop shortcut has offers the "Normal, Min, Max" options, but what about from the start bar or a file that has a registered association for the file type? It almost seems random -- sometimes I get the behavior I want and sometimes it's bizarre. Thanks for any help.

    Re: window size and placement

How the window opens is contorlled by the program creating the window. Well behaved programs usually open a window with the same size and placement as it had when it was last closed. Programs that are not well behaved do whatever they do.

As a rule, program windows will open up in the last state you closed them.
