I'm new to Vista and am just loading a new PC with Office 2007. Some of the Word templates have a reference that is "Missing". The item is MS Windows Common Forms, filename is mscomct2.ocx.

I imagine that the control at issue is the Date Picker. Can I safely copy the ocx file from an XP installation to System 32?

    Thanks.

You can't simply copy an .ocx file, you need to register it. It might be better to download and install the Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 Service Pack 6 Cumulative Update.

I gave that update a try, but it runs only if VB6 is installed. I am using VBA in this case, not VB. Is there another solution I could try?

    Thanks.

Mscomct2.ocx contains VB6 controls. You might try copying the file from a Windows XP machine to C:\Windows\System32 on your Vista PC, then registering it by entering

    regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\mscomct2.ocx

in the Start Search box and pressing Ctrl+Shift+Enter to run this command as Administrator.
