    Thumbs up

    Hi,
I have a file (WORD 2003, Widows XP) that behaves extremely strangely. If I want to bold, or underline something, or any small format change, the file goes into "thinking" mode for a very long time, and when (OR if) it comes out of it , it have formatted the whole file, not just the few words i had marked. This goes for any indentation, bulleting, anything, and sometimes, it doesn't come out of think mode at all. If it does come out, and the whole file has been reformatted, then I click undo and then only the marked text will be formatted. I have tried many times to copy -paste the whole thing into a new file/new name, and it still happens to the new file. Even if I copy-paste part by part, even then the new file behaves the same way. Any ideas. this is an important paper that I am writing and I don't know how to get out of this mess. No other word files behave this way on my computer.
    Thanks a lot, Elisa

This sounds like you have "Automatically update" set for your Normal style.
