    Registered User (Office 2000)

I've acquired a laptop used by one of my employees. When an Office program starts, the opening screen has his name as the "Registered To" person. It's only an annoyance, nothing major, but I'd like to change that. Have gone into programs and changed User Information (e.g., Word/Tools/Options/User Information) but that only changes the name for Comments. Any way to change the registered user name?

I'm not at a machine where I can get into the registry right now, but as I recall, you change this in Windows itself. In Win 98, back up your registry, then use regedit.exe & navigate to

RegisteredOwner and RegisteredOrganization values in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersion

I can't check this out right now, so you might run a search in the registry (using RedEdit) & search for "registered", to see if there is a separate setting for Office.

    Hope this helps.

Prior to Office 2000, one had to uninstall, then re-install Office to change the registered user/organization name.

With Office 2000, see MSFT KB article q233499.
