Auto save of attachments (5.5)

When I open an attachment in OE, it automatically saves it to a folder in c:WindowsTemporary Internet Files; but, I would like it to save in c:WindowsTemp.

How can I change the file destination?

I looked under Tools--Options, and I tried the OE Help file; but, I've found no answer.

Thank you.

All I do to change destination is to use "BROWSE" button to select one I want and then from then on, it remains there? Am I just lucky?

you're saving from express, i think he's opening in express.

no, you can't change the location used for the temp files.

Lilfavor, thanks. Yes, I know about saving attachments via Browse. I'm speaking of how Windows98?/OE? saves the attachment automatically (not with my intervention) to a C drive folder when it is read and am wanting to redirect the automatic save to another folder, to c:windowstemp.

Mary, I worked for a company remotely, whose CPU I was given, when I opened attachments, auto saved them to "temp." I am absolutely certain of this. I'd prefer this folder as the destination. How did the company have my CPU set up to enable that destination I wonder? The woman who "ghosted" (programmed) all of the CPUs the company sent out is no longer there, so I can't ask her.

Thanks to you both for your responses.

Re: Auto save of attachments (5.5)

were they the same versions of Express? I think it was changed with recent versions - 5.5 and 5.0 sp2.

Outlook used to use windows temp too, but now uses a folder in TIF folder too. That was added with Office SP1. It's temp folder can be set from the registry. i don't see a similar key in the registry for OE and it's never been documented, if one does exist.

Re: Auto save of attachments (5.5)-OE to O trf?

MaryJ,

Thanks, you've explained the mystery. I don't know what version of OE the remote/office CPU had; but, I feel sure you've nailed why the attachments were auto saved to a different folder than my personal CPU saves them to now.

I really, really need to switch to MS Outlook and drop MS OE, because of the added features I'd gain; but, I hate to go through the transfer process.

Is there a program that will transfer my OE folders and mail to Outlook with a simple few steps.....perhaps "mirror" everything into Outlook from OE???

When setting up Outlook 2000, it will ask if you want to convert your OE mail and address boot to Outlook 2000 format.
It has worked on every computer that I have loaded Outlook 2000 on.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

Re: Auto save of attachments (5.5)-OE to O trf?

Dave A,

I have Outlook 97 (v. 8.02) installed that I used as an employee for business email (but no longer); however, I'd like to use it now for my business.

I've been using OE 5.5 for both business and personal, but I long for the features I know are present in Outlook.

Now, where do I get Outlook 2000? Do I have to have Windows 2000 installed in order to receive O-2000?

Or, is there an easy way (as easy as with Outlook 2000) to convert from OE 5.5 to Outlook 97?

I do understand that Outlook 2000 would have better features than Outlook 97; I'm not ready, however, to convert to Windows 2000, if that's what is necessary to get O-2000.

Thank you for your help.

the easiest way to convert to outlook is using express's export., not outlook's import.

you'll need to buy a new version of outlook - or buy an iPaq - it has a copy of outlook 2000 included. Other handhelds may as well. outlook runs on any ms os, you don't need windows 2000.

Outlook 2000 comes with Office 2000. If you think that the additional functionality - not just for Outtlook, but for your whole office suite - justifies the expense , then go for it. Even better, try to talk your boss into stumping up for the upgrade . Good luck!
