    Angry

While viewing my previous restore points, I noticed that SR does not add any check points like it used to. Other than that the program works perfectly, I can make new restore points and go back to a previous date and install my chosen date with no problems.

I have SR set to monitor only drive C: and have set the Disk Space to 5% (3871 MB).

I wonder why I no longer see check points and I would like someone to help me fix SR so that they load every once in a while like they used to. It's no earth shaking problem, but I think they may have been important or useful to have them.

Nothing is necessarily broken and needs a fix. The PC must be left idle for around 5-10 minutes when 24 hours (normal case) has passed since the last RP.

If one uses the PC constantly from start to shut down, it can go weeks or more, without a RP.

OK, to test your point, I'm leaving the house now and won't return for at least 3 hours. When I return I'll expect to see a check point (according to your theory). I'll be certain to post back and let you know the results.

It's not a theory, it's a fact. From Kelly's Korner (you do believe Kelly, right ???).....

"System Restore does create a restore point every 24 hours IF the system is idle, but on and not in hibernate or standby, (idle meaning no disk i/o, mouse or keyboard activity)."

You might also want to bump up the space to more than 5%, IF you have enough spare HD room. It defaults to 12%.

Long ago, there was a time when men cursed and beat on the ground with sticks. It was called witchcraft.
    Today it is called golf!

Sho Nuff I believe in Kelly's Korner. My test failed, by the way, when I returned nothing was there but the restore point I had created that AM.

But, I do have good news, good especially for me. I found a file (XPSystemRestorePointFrequency.zip). Don't ask where I found it, because I was so anxious to try the .vbs file that I forgot to make a note of it's location. Anyway the .vbs file worked, when I checked SR this morning, guess what I found. Right, you got it right the first time, there sat a System Checkpoint and a Installing Defrag going back to May 12, 2009.

Now I'll have to search my computer for the download location of that .zip file, so I can save it to be used if it ever happens again.

Thanks for your help guys, I consider this thread closed.

OK, and you told the PC "I shall be back!" ...

Anyhow, that doesn't tell us if it is enough time. True, 3 hours or more is more than 7 minutes idle, but that doesn't tell us anything, if for example some program update in the morning resulted in a RP. But, even if you didn't tell us, if there is no RPs before this for some days, well, then it should work.

That is what I was going to write yesterday, but now you write:

So, are you now telling us that you had created a RP in the AM and expected it (SR) to create a RP automatically less that 24 hours later?

Of course not. But, I did go back and found where I got the .vbs file.

I hope this information can help someone else that might have the same problem. On the page are several other .vbs files that can be used for other problems with System Restore.

Thanks for the link. I downloaded and ran the file, restore point failed. Darn it!

And what was the problem (before you used the file)?
