I am creating a template and I want to put footnotes in it. On the first footnote. I want the footnote character in the body of the document and at the bottom of the page to be an asterisk. I want all consecutive footnotes in the body and at the bottom to be numbers, starting with the number 1. Is it possible to do this and if so how? Thanks for any help.

I don't think so, but perhaps someone else will come up with a bright suggestion.

Using Word 2002, I was able to do this by inserting the first footnote using an asterisk "Symbol" as a "Custom mark", and then inserting the subsequent footnotes using the default "Number format" and "Continuous" "Numbering". I thought that I might need to insert a continuous section break between the first and subsequent items of footnoted text, but that didn't seem necessary.

(I tried to upload a document illustrating this but couldn't. Perhaps this was blocked by something here at my work.)
