    Welcome to the Lounge!!

I've installed SP-3 on multiple PCs and have not had anyone complain about the PC being slow. Have you had someone complain to you about the PC slowing down?

I'd go ahead and install SP-3 on the new PC after backing it up. If you have automatic updates turned on with the other PCs then go ahead and turn it on on the new PC.

    Hi,

Like Joe, I have installed Windows XP SP3 on several PCs at home and at work without any problems. The PCs aren't any slower (or faster) than before the update.

SP3 doesn't introduce significant new features to Windows XP, it's mostly a rollup of all updates and patches that had been released after SP2. Installing SP3 ensures that you have all those updates and patches, in one go.

No, having no problems wth sp3 . It's just that my computer guy and dear friend called and said to turn off all updates to sp3. (sorry in my first post i said auto updates..)and wanted to kno if any else knew why ....guess i'll have to ask him again. He hasn't steered me wrong yet..also on other sites I've heard other people say the best way to keep windows running well is to update automatically . i dont agree... think Woodys my new hero!..( I'm taking pc repair and although I'm still working with hardware..trying to learn as much about windows as I can ... and the more I learn the more I can't believe how many people don't take the time to learn even the basics on how to care for such a big investment.

looking forward to learning a lot here ..hope no one thinks my ?s are stupid ..cuz i have a lot of them

You computer guy would have to be a little more specific in his reasoning.
Like others that have answered and probably most that haven't, I have had SP3 up and running with all updates. No problems at all with it.
I DON'T have auto updating enabled but like to see just what the updates are about before I let them install.

Long ago, there was a time when men cursed and beat on the ground with sticks. It was called witchcraft.
    Today it is called golf!

    Hi
You kno, I texted him and asked him again. he didn't elaborate.. just clients were calling him saying sp3 was slowing up pcs ...he has an IQ in the stratosphere and I think he tries to make things as easy on them as possible. I'll call one of these days and ask him to be specific. (I can here it now... an exasperated sigh, and a 35 min explanation like I'm a 5 year old )....Any road I was curious because sp3 is old update. why now? I searched the net and couldn't find anything about buggy sp3 updates.. I do have mine on , not auto I like to see what they are also.... and my machines running sp3 are fine When I pull it out of him I'll post it...

    Thanks, niecy
