Security settings (Win 95/Of 97)

I recently re-installed IE version 5 and now have the following problem.

Yahoo is set as home page. When I open IE v5 I get a "Page Cannot Be Displayed - Refresh" message. I hit refresh and I get a "Security Alert" window which askes if I want to proceed. I reply "Yes" and I get a "Security Information" window, followed by a "Page Contains Secure and Non-Secure. Display Non Secure?" message. Finally I get to Yahoo.

    What am I doing wrong?

You may have your Internet zone set for High security (or customized to more-secure-than-Microsoft-default-level). Assuming you trust Yahoo!, you can add *.yahoo.com to your Trusted sites list, in the Tools, Internet Options... dialog, Security tab. Over time, you can customize your general Internet security settings to strike the best balance between inconvenience and paranoia, and add the most important sites to your Trusted list. (I usually uncheck the "require HTTPS" box when I add a trusted site, but I'm not sure if that is necessary.)

I added Yahoo to the Trusted Sites list, but no help. I looked at the security certificate, and it is dated 8/7/2000 to 8/8/2001. In other words, it is expired. How do you renew these things?

I'm lost. If I go to http://www.yahoo.com/ and choose File, Properties and click Security..., it says there is no certificate for this type of page. Which certificate are you referring to?? (BTW, I use IE5.01 SP2)

If you are using a secure Yahoo! page that does have a certificate behind it, then I think Yahoo! has the responsibility for keeping that up to date. I'm not sure it is possible or desirable to stop the browser from checking the date on that.

My stupid mistake. I had included an "s" in the http part of the address. It all makes sense now. Thank you for your help.
