Oh boy, them was the good ol' days! I never had one in a wooden box however. I certainly had a lot of "BBSs" in my list that I used to frequent daily for downloading free utility software.

It's one of the first places I almost got in trouble with the "law." I had a friend at work (you all know where I worked) and I gave him a piece of commercial backup software I had bought and didn't like. It's was an el-cheapo, so I didn't mind giving it away. Well, he put the @#$%^& thing on his BBS for people to download and somebody reported it to the vendor in Chicago! He called my work manager (shudder) and threatened to sue my company. I don't know how or why he thought it had anything to do with work - I think he must have had a big corporate "settlement" in mind.

When I called him and told him it was a personal purchase and chewed him out for calling my employer, I told him I had proof that I had given away the original disk and documentation, I never heard any more from him.

    Ahhh, those were the days!

    300 baud was fast!
(I think) I remember we had a couple of enormous IBM boxes (IBM 2701 data adapter units?) on our mainframe running at 75 baud. They were each about the size of a shower cubicle...
