    Thumbs up

Recently after installing some third party software on my Sony Vaio laptop, Windows Media Player started freezing during DVD play. Prior to the third party software installation, Media Player worked fine with these same DVDs. My OS is Windows Vista 64-bit. I have searched for a solution on Windows Vista , Microsoft & other web sites and found others have this same problem but no one has a solution to fix this problem. Hopefully, you have some ideas to help me resolve this. Thanks!

The third party software are Thayer Birding's "Birds of North America - Gold Edition" and United Soft Media's" Redshift 7 Premium". Both programs work fine with Vista Ultimate 64-bit and do not use Windows Media Player. (By "third party software", I had meant non-Microsoft or non-Microsoft approved/certified software.) I appreciate any help to fix the problem so MediaPlayer does not freeze when playing DVD movies.

    Do you have version 3.9?
If not then the following applies.

#1 The reason that you are having a problem installing your version 3.0, 3.1 or 3.5 CD on your new Vista computer is because it can't be done! We had to totally rewrite the program to work on Vista. This new Vista-compatible CD is called version 3.9.

You can now order a new version 3.9 and get 20% off. Visit OnlineNatureMall.com and enter the promotional code W428 during checkout to get your "20% Loyal Customer Discount"

#3 Before February 10, 2009, our programs would not run on 64-bit computers. They do now. Get the free update for 64-bit computers.

More information: The third party software are Thayer Birding's "Birds of North America - Gold Edition" and United Soft Media's Redshift 7 Premium". I installed Thayer Birding's program first ; then later in the day I started noticing Media player screen (on Full Screen display) would freeze about 25 minutes into playing a DVD movie. About a week later I installed Redshift 7 and noticed Media player would freeze about 5 to 10 minutes into playing a DVD movie. I appreciate any help to determine how/why these 2 programs are apparently causing MediaPlayer to freeze when playing commercial/home-type DVD movies.

I do have the new version 5.0 of "Birds of North America - Gold Edition" installed and it works fine with Vista Ultimate 64-bit. it is just after installing this software, Media Player began to freeze in Full Screen Mode about 30 minutes into play of a DVD movie.

    Thanks.

I would suspect he must Dave, since the program is installed. The info you posted would seem to indicate that it can't be installed if it's not v3.9.

I suspect that the cause of your media player problems is the birding program since the problem started after installing that. You might want to check the publishers Knowledgebase or ask their help desk for some insight. they can be found here. If you find no joy there, we can try a few things. But it would be best to see if they are aware of this issue and have a solution first.
