I'm working on a template created from a two page document, which was created from two other templates. I've added text fields, autotext entries, autotextlist fields, made sure that tracked changes is off, protected the template, saved and closed.

When I try to create a document using this template, tracked changes is on in the protected document. The template will be used by people who normally don't use Word often, so tracked changes will confuse them.

What do I do to get tracked changes out of the template and/or document?

Perhaps Word is applying the wrong kind of protection? In addition to protecting for Forms, Word can protect by requiring all changes to be tracked. Can you double-check that?

    Could you do the following:
    - Create a copy of the template.
    - If necessary, unprotect the copy, remove sensitive information, and protect it again.
    - Save the copy.
    - Zip it.
    - Attach the zip file to a reply.

    Thanks in advance.

I believe that I have removed all sensitive information. I protected the template with Tracked Changes off. Thanks, Hans, for any help that you can give.

The template contains a few custom document properties that cause this behavior, in particular _ReviewCycleID. If you remove them, Track Changes will not be turned on automaticallyt when the template or a document based on it is opened.
    To do so:
    - Open the template.
    - Unprotect it.
    - Select File | Properties.
    - Activate the Custom tab.
    - Click on each of the four custom properties in turn, then click Delete.
    - Close the Properties window.
    - Protect for forms.
    - Close and save the template.

    Thank you much, Hans.

I would have never looked at the Custom Properties for anything affecting the document. I learned something new today.
