I have several strange folders that are on my second hard drive.

They all appear to be files for a update, and most are for ".NET".

Here is a list of the main folders
    H:\40db8cd9fdc57d7015
    H:\99d354fe5905a7453886
    H:\7316be0c22e05684e855f930
    H:\beae4341f1deb87f509cca91514941
    H:\f2f06ab9de484efd6e19f3
    H:\fc886ba1cc054c9af2adb1a1d3

For some of the sub folders and contents see attachment.

I think I can delete them with out issues, but would like a second and third opinion

Update folders (left behind for some reason or other); they would not stay around many minutes on my PC.

I assume that the drive in question is one of the larger (or with a large amount of free space) that is around.

Windows Installer will pick the drive for the temp folders based on free space. I see folders like that occasionally and just delete them. I don't even bother to try to figure out why they are still there.

The reasons I'm so quick to delete them (sometimes with a necessary reboot between) is that as you guessed it is only expanded files from the installer setup file and it would mean that I had an unnecessary second or third copy of all the files. The files and folders in the hidden C:\WINDOWS\Installer folder is a different matter; they have a purpose; I can repair the installation etc. But these randomly named folders are only a result of the Windows Installer expanding the files (and for some reason not always cleaning up).

Mentioned here: Post 713146; and about the package installer and its switches, how to extract on another drive etc. I mentioned a little here Post 654925.
