Just starting some research into the options that we have for setting up online meetings.

This is mostly for the managers and will be at least on a fortnightly basis. There could be up to 9 people involved mostly it will be less. Each of the managers is in a different geographical location.

I guess I am looking for something that allows audio, video and sharing of documents.

I haven't done the Google search yet. I have come here first to see what recommendations you may have for me.

We used to use WebEx: Web Conferencing, Web Meeting, Video Conference, Online Meeting Services. We used it for several years and had no complaints as long as all parties had a decent web connection.

We now use Live Meeting Home Page - Microsoft Office Online. The primary reason for the change was $$$. Live Meeting costs us less. So far it has worked well for us.

I recently heard about Dimdim: Web conferencing that just works. from someone whose judgement I trust. Haven't had a chance to investigate it though.

There's also Web Conferencing | GoToMeeting. When we were switching from WebEx we investigated this. I'm not aware of a reason other than cost that we rejected this.

    Thanks Joe,

I found three of those and am looking into each. And I will follow up on the fourth.

Skype allows multiple video sessions, but I'm not sure how effective it is for as many as 9 participants.

We briefly looked at ooVoo but it costs ús for more than a few users - so we stopped looking!

    Hi Jo

I suspect that we will have to upgrade to something commercial soon but for the time being we are using Skype for 3 way office meetings, but just having opened 3 other overseas loctions plus another couple in the UK I don't know how it will cope.

As we use a bespoke software I have also installed the free Log me in program for training. This way we can have a face to face so to speak (with Skype you can close the left pane and just leave the image pane which we drag to the left of the screen), using Log me in we can then do live demo's of the software and the 'trainee' can also remotely take control of the mouse and explore the software whilst we supervise.
    Cheers

    Steve

Just thought I'd update with our progress.

I looked at each of the above suggestions and narrowed it down to two - DimDim and Office Live.

The managers have opted to go with DimDim for now so that they can see how it operates and learn about what they really need and then make the decision to go with a paid service if they find that the free one does not do all they want.

The main downsides to DimDim are 1) that it is a leader/follower type set up. That is, the meeting convenor is the only one who can upload files and 2) that the files to be uploaded are restricted to .ppt and .pdf

And it has a very silly name? (Info on how it was selected in the Dimdim Company Backgrounder (PDF).)
