    Outlook slowing down (O 2000)

I'm using O2000 - also NAV 2000 - recently, it has become very, very slow when downloading - I get about a dozen newsletters each morning - recently my screen saver has come on while downloading - never used to!
Could be my ISP, I suppose - does Outlookk slow down for any reason in any circumstances?
    Help please

sounds like you have email scanning enabled. disable it and see if things speed up.

nav gets the email, scans it, then outlook gets it from nav.

    Thanks but....
If I disable won't I expose myself to virus infection? Do I do this in NAV2000?
Haven't changed any settings recently - but Outlook slowdown is recent...
When I open O2000 - my HD works for several seconds before I can select anything...

not really - leave nav on autoprotect and don't open unknow or unexpected attachments. email scanning doesn't really increase your protect level by much. it's changed in NAV's options.

was the slow down after installing nav or other software?

    Thanks but...
    Stopped e-mail scanning, left autoprotect on - can't find 'don't open...' ??
    But doesn't speed up.
Can't think of any new software installed recently...
But as mentioned, when I open Outlook, my HD works away awhile before I can do anything.
Also noticed that although I've set Opera ass my default browser when I use link to connect to Woody's Lounge, it opens IE. ???

Most virus problems are in the attachments, not in the message bodies, so the method of scanning when the attachment is accessed (it is saved to a temp file) should catch almost everything. The rest can be controlled by placing Outlook in the Restricted Zone, and making the settings for that zone as tight as possible (that is, disable the activeX and scripting options).

As for the speed issue, do you run any rules that could be slowing down the download? Does your Inbox contain thousands of items? I don't know when that starts to slow things down, but like any index, there comes a point when adding more items takes a lot of time.
