    Thumbs up

I have four desktop icons, all various versions of installflashplayer.exe. When I try to delete them from the screen, I get a message that "Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and has to close". If I go into the file where they are being held and try and delete them within the file, I get the same message. What do I need to do to get rid of these things, because I realy don't want or need them. Any insight that anyone can provide on how to get rid of these, would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Have you tried in safe mode?

You can try the free UNLOCKER 1.8.7 BY CEDRICK 'NITCH' COLLOMB to see if some process has them tied up.

You can also try the free MoveOnBoot - Rename, Move, Delete Locked Folders and Locked Files on Restart.

Joe, I don't think the first one will work, based on its desccription of what it does. As for the second one, It looks like something I should try.

My next question, is why would these be locked, or tied up by some process? They are simply icons on a desktop?

    Ron,

You should give Unlocker a try. It's FREE and it has served me well for several years now, to do just the sort of thing that you are now having a problem with. BTW - those are not JUST desktop icons, they are shortcuts and if the underlying program is in use by Windows (in any of it's bizzare ways) you will have this sort of problem.

I just used it yesterday to "Unlock" & delete an item that was stuck in a client's print que. Check out the link Joe provided and you will see that it offers several options from unlock to delete.
