parameter prompt acting wierd (Access 2000)

I've created a report to generate monthly data (runs against a
    parameter query and works fine)

I've generated another parameter query to generate y-t-d summary
data (count, sum, avg) (user keys in both dates for flexibility)
and it works correctly by itself.

Incorporated it into a report as a subreport and it prompts for
the date range THREE times. By itself, it prompts only once (as
it should). Why is it prompting three times when used as a
subreport and what is the fix?

Any help or ideas will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

You don't need a parameter on a subreport recordsource if the subreport is linked using the Master/Child Link fields. Just make your subreport query calculate the totals by year and make sure you have a year field in both the parent recordset and the childrecordset. Adding that to the links will return only the appropriate year in the subreport. The multiple prompts for parameters occur because the subreport query is executing more than once when the report is opening and formatting.
