I am using IE7. In my favorites list several items appear with their own individual icons. This is fine and helps locate some particular favorites. However, any new favorites I add to the list now sport the little green icon for Nuance.com even though they have absolutely nothing to do with Nuance. Any ideas why this is happening or how I can change the offending icons, either to their proper ones or just back to the IE icon itself?

I have done this, but no change, except for the fact that two Google favorites have now lost their multicoloured icon which has been replaced by an icon from another site I added today.

You might try FavOrg (free, available from Witts End Oldies but Goldies.

Or upgrade to Internet Explorer 8; I haven't lost a favorites icon since I installed it.

First thing I'd try is updating to IE8. It has been much more stable for me than IE7.

For your favicons you could try out AM-DeadLink - Download FavIcons and detect dead links in your browser bookmarks.
