When I plug in my head set with built in microphone, I can hear other people when they are talking to me on Skype. However they cannot hear me. Have done the mic test on Skype and nothing. Tried making a test with Sound recorder and nothing.

Is this an indication of possible problems with my sound card, although I question that as I have sound albeit listening to music or hearing others when on Skype? Or is it just an indication that my mic just no longer works.

Going to test another mic when I get home later today. Guess I am just wondering whether my assumption in previous paragraph is correct or not.

Activate the Sounds and Audio Devices control panel.
    Click Advanced.
Make sure that "Line in" isn't muted and that the level slider isn't at or near 0.
