    i have a legal version of office 2003 on CD. my new notebook laptop doesn't take CDs, only USB. is there a way to copy the CD installation to a flash drive to then install Word on the notebook?

    It's worth a try, but of course you will need a CD drive to do it... Note that most CDs contain less than 750GB of material, so you won't need a huge flash drive.

    I sure Jefferson meant 750MB not 750GB. You should be able to use Windows Explorer to copy the CD contents to a USB thumb drive. Then use Windows Explorer on the notebook and run setup.exe from the USB thumb drive.

    My only addition to Joe's reply to ensure you can copy ALL the required files, make sure you goto View Folder option in Explorer and ...
    1. Check Box "Display the contents system folders"
    2. Check box "Show hidden file and folders"
    3. Uncheck box "Hide protected operating system files"

    One other thing you might want to consider is moving the files from the flash drive to a folder on your desktop and installing from there. It should install faster that way.
