    Angry

My previous version was WMP 11. Problem was that it loaded with the player, I couldn't see anything but the player. Therefore I removed it from my computer and cleaned it out of the registry. I needed to see options, tools, and other things that should have been available.

Now I want to install WMP 10, but keep getting the message "A more recent version of WMP is already running. Setup cannot continue."

There are no files on the computer and I've searched the Registry twice, not objects remain. What's the secret for getting around the message?"

I could reinstall version 11, but afraid that I'll have the same problem.

    Reinstall Windows Media Player 11.
    Start it.
    Right-click the title bar.
Select "Show Classic Menus" from the popup menu.

(I have selected Corporate in View | Skin Chooser, and almost always use Skin Mode (Ctrl+2). Much better than that awful Full Mode.)

Thank you Hans, from what you've said I can assume that the player always opens in player view only. Am I understanding you correctly?

It must have installed correctly, but I didn't realize how to get to other things. I'll try again.

    Thank you again,

Initially, menus are hidden. But if you select "Show Classic Menus" or switch to the Corporate skin, Media Player will remember that for next time.

Unlike Hans, I have never changed the skin but if you hit Ctrl-M it will switch to the classic command line visible mode.

Thanks, Hans. I had never heard of 'Corporate' view.

Windows Media Player comes with a number of skins, and you can download many others from Microsoft and from third parties, but they're all much too fancy for me. I like the "Corporate" skin because it's very plain.

You'll never know just how much I appreciated your information on using the player. I've had many versions but this is the first one that I had no idea how to use. Where is this information available? I've missed seeing any information of how to use the player. Before I just installed it and let it run (as is), and adjusted nothing. I don't burn music or use any of the other options availabe to users.

Because of ignorance on my part, I removed a perfectly good version. But, all's well that end's well and I thank you again.

When I installed WMP 11, I noticed that there were no menus. Right-clicking often provides extra options, so I right-clicked in various places and found the Show Classic Menus option.

Wonder of wonders! I've reinstalled version 11 and following Hans instructions I now see the menus (I think that's what they're called). I selected Show classic menus and now can make changes among other things.

The more I think I know about computing, the more I realize I need to know.

Since you seem to have gotten where you want to go, I'll add a new question that's been nagging me and I can't find what I'm missing.

As you can see from my attachment above, the playlist that happens to be showing is NOT in alphabetical order. But some ARE and I don't know what I did to make that happen. If you click to sort by filename you get the groupings that look like the following and that's not what I want. I just want an alpha sorted list. Can anyone help me in my wandering?

You'd think that the information would be available to users somewhere, wouldn't you? Hit and miss, try this and if it doesn't work, try something else. I just looked and noticed that something wasn't visible and assumed that the installation had failed.

I don't know where I'd be or what I'd do without you guys.
