I'm working on a PowerPoint 2003 presentation that someone else built, and many of the slides include "footnotes." These footnotes refer the audience to specific chapters and paragraphs in various publications. I need to edit these footnotes, but I can't select the text! I checked the PowerPoint Help tool, where I read that one can insert a footnote onto a single slide by clicking Insert >> Text Box. If these footnotes are text boxes, why can't I select and them?

The "footnotes" might be footer text.
Select View | Header and Footer (in a slide with a footnote) to see if you can edit the text there.
