    Is there a suggested safety speed for flashing text on the web?

    I would avoid using flashing text at all. Even if the speed is so slow that it won't be dangerous, it will still be irritating to many people.

    Hi Jezza

    It is not me who is using the flashing gif, it is on a new site from our local parish council, I suggested that they use something other than a flashing animated gif, the reply was they had slowed it to what they condsider would not present a problem.

    Just to confirm his link, I DO see a couple of VERY annoying flashing lines of text.

    You'll have to view the page in Firefox to see the flashing text. It doesn't flash in Opera, IE8, Chrome or Safari.

    So which browser is following standards, then?

    It's implemented by directives <blink> and </blink>,

    "<BLINK> was once reviled as the most obnoxious tag in HTML. Now it's mostly forgotten. MSIE does not even support <BLINK> anymore." says HTMLCodeTutorial.

    I'm using Firefox 3.5.2. I see no flashing on this page. I cannot find any blink tags in the source for this page. Could the author have been shamed into cleaning it up?
