    Java Script (IE 6.0)

    It is reported that IE 6.0 does not support Java Applets and sure enough an important applet on my ISP's home page now doesn't work. How can I reinstate Java Script support?

    Go to Windows update and install VM, Virtual Machine. Most pages will as to install VM when it is needed and you do not have it.

    Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

    As KB <A target="_blank" HREF=http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q293/5/13.ASP>Q293513</A> states:

    <hr>
    Components Not Included

    Unlike previous versions of Internet Explorer, version 6 does not include Web folders, FTP folders, MSN Messenger, Microsoft VM for Java, or NetMeeting 3.x. Existing versions of these programs and features are preserved on upgrade or may be installed by your operating system. Microsoft VM for Java can be installed on demand if required to display a Web page.
    <hr>

    The Java download is available <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.microsoft.com/Java/default.htm>here</A>.

    Re: Java Script (IE 6.0)

    As a side note. JAVA and JavaSCRIPT are not the same -- despite the similarities of the name. IE6 supports JavaSCRIPT -- as well as Microsoft's own "JScript" -- right out of the box.

    Also, if you have "Microsoft Virtual Machine" previously installed by way of IE5, then IE6 continues to support "Java". To verify that you have this, open a Run box and type "wjview" (no quotes) and hit Enter. If a box appears, you have MS Virtual Machine for Java installed.

    Re: Java Script (IE 6.0)

    I feel Microsoft has either accidently or intentionally messed up JAVA with IE6. I do have Microsoft Virtual Machine installed but every time I load a page with Java in it I get an "Install on Demand" box asking me to install Java Virtual Machine. I say "yes" then it appears to be downloading and installing then I get a message saying that it can't be done because I don't have the latest operating system or service pack 2 installed. BUT I DO have these: Windows2000 with Service pack 2. In any case the site displays its Java (double contradiction) then, for the triple contradiction, it asks me to install all over again when I next visit the page with java! Etc ad nauseum.
    It gets worse doesn't it?
    Is there a cure apart from installing netscape instead?

    Re: Java Script (IE 6.0)

    Being that you are running Win2K, are you logged in as Admin when you are installing VM? This affects the OS so it may not be completing.
    Note: I have been running IE6.0 beta and Windows 2k for some time and have not had this problem. Also on another machine running Windows XP (RTM) and IE 6.0 no problems there.

    Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

    I'm logged in as a member of the Administrators group.
    Isn't this the same thing?

    Re: Java Script (IE 6.0)

    I logged on as Administrator but the same thing happened.
    It won't load web pages containing Java
    (perhaps this should read 'certain java')
    It asks you to download and install Java Virtual machine.
    It says that it has failed for a reason manifestly false.
    The page then loads and plays normally.
    It's a bug.
