    These pictures were taken by a friend of mine who has a chopper hire company in Rabaul PNG.
    He took them on his way back from a charter.

    The volcano [TAURVUR] is not far of the coast of East New Britian.
    The town is Rabaul all covered in ash.
    Rabaul was once a lush tropical paradise

    I think you mean TAVURVUR?

    It seems to be spelt various ways - even the hyperlink I gave above includes "tarvurvur/news.html"

    I just spelled it the same way as gary who took the pictures did.

    I have not been to Rabaul only to Kimbe down the coast a ways.

    They have there own volcano.

    The ash is not fun but the earthquakes make up for it.
