    The fuss is over customizable XML schemas in Word 2003 and 2007. Never fear, Microsoft plans to appeal. More info and links for the curious:

    Here are links to a few MSDN articles on Word 2007, that get into things that can be done with custom XML. These articles refer to "CustomXMLPart (2007 Microsoft Office system core object model)" - which would seem to indicate the issue may extend beyond Word (unless this has only been implemented so far in Word?).

    It seems like Word would run fine, if it had to, without this functionality. But anyone who had built a solution using this technology would be hosed. I suddenly feel a lot less guilty for not having learned this aspect of Word 2007 yet!
