    Thumbs up

I wonder if it would be possible to have a place where posters could add their system information. Then questions would not have to be asked like:

    What is your operating system?
What software/hardware do you have installed?
How much memory do you have?

Other forums suggest that users list information like that.

You could put the information in your profile, for example in your 'About Me' page. You can then refer other Loungers to your profile.
Of course, it would be up to you to keep the information up-to-date.

So what you're suggesting would mean that whoever was going to try to answer your question would have to go someplace to a Lounge file and look you up? Of course, you could put some stuff in your signature but that can get out of hand. And last but not least, for many people that's a volatile bit of info and might be downlevel by the time a question is asked.

Surely it can't be a big job for you, when posting a question in XP, to tell what version you have? We hardly ever need to know the brand of your PC, etc.

I can give you an analogy. I have an online, emergency medical file in case some EMT, doctor or hospital ever needed to know about me. I carry a card in my billfold with the URL. It's already changed four times in the past month and I'm not good about keeping it up to date.

I really don't think it would eliminate a little dialogue once in awhile to ask questions back and forth. One man's opinion.

I have 6 machines, running 4 different OS's, one is even dual bootable at this time. Now that would make a good signature

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

    Al,
May I ask to what you are referring when you wrote that mine was big enough? I think most viewers minds will jump to something not mentionable here.

Thank you, Hans, for the clarification!

Gloria, I made a post directly in reply to DaveA which is shown in my post. I don't know about most, but MY mind is not where you may think some are. Sorry for what I hope was an "accidental" offense!

Great idea, and I have done just that. If users want to know about my computer they just have to visit my About Me page and learn all about my computer.

    Thanks for the suggestion.

    Dear Al,

Nothing you could ever say to me would be an "offense." I was trying to be cute and it failed miserably. Please forgive me, I did not mean to suggest that your mind nor mine was in the gutter (so to speak).

Again I had to resort to coming directly to the board to write this reply, the link supplied in the digest to bring me here is not working. See my post about this, posted today on this board.

    Your friend, always and forever.

I recommend using the "wink" smiley to avoid misunderstandings in these situations. Although I suppose that could have other interpretations as well...
