I burned a data DVD containing some Word files and a PST file (Outlook 2000). They person receiving it cannot open the PST file with their Outlook. I made a spare DVD so I looked at the one we have here and I also cannot open it. I tried copying the PST file to my hard drive first but still cannot open it. The Scanpst.exe utility doesn't recognize the file. The error message says "The file c:\file.pst is not a personal folders file." The original on my computer can still be opened. Just not the one on disk. This person really needs to be able to open the file on their end right away. It's way too big to email.

Can someone shed light on what happened and what, if anything, I can do about it now?

Files copied to a CD-ROM or DVD-ROM are read-only, even when you copy them back to hard disk. Outlook cannot work with read-only .pst files. So try the following before opening the file in Outlook:
    - Copy the file from the DVD to hard disk.
    - Right-click the file in Windows Explorer.
    - Select Properties from the popup menu.
    - Clear the Read-only check box.
    - Click OK.

In that case, something must have gone wrong when the .pst file was copied to the DVD. Try zipping the .pst file and copying the zip file to the DVD.

Argh. I found enough space on one of my websites so I created a password protected directory and will upload the PST inside a password-protected ZIP file. Best I can do for now. Frustrating day all around.
