I just pout the Win_7 RC (b7100) on my daughter's Dell laptop.

Everything seems OK till I run WinUpdate.

After picking the updates, it tries to set a restore point, and 2 hours later is still stuck.

I checked to be sure Restore s turned on...What could be the matter?

    Regards,
    Chuck Billow

Is enough space allocated to System Restore?

Is this a dual boot system?

Joe, here's the thing I found: I was installing COMODO Firewall and AV (I use it on my own Win_7 box with no complaints), but it seems to be conflicting somehow.

WIndows Firewall is already there, what do I do for AV? Defender isn't AV, is it?

Jumping in with a quicky. Defender is NOT AV, Chuck.

Did you do a clean or upgrade to Windows 7 RC?

Also, why are installing the RC as it will expire about MID 2010?

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

Dave, Her machine came pre-configured with Vista Home (and a bunch of other crap). She just broke her wrist not 2 weeks ago, and I was trying to get Dragon Speak to run on her machine.

It wouldn't even install the way Dell had it set up. When I formatted the drive and installed 7, it installed straight away.

Having to re-do a clean install by June of 2010 is a small price...

    Bob, I didn't think so....

I've been using Comodo on my box with no problem...maybe I'll just try it again and see...

Are you running the install as Administrator?

Is Comodo compatible with Win 7?

Joe, the Comodo install? Yes. And it installs fine. I think somehow it's blocking the restore point functionality, as it just sits there on "Creating a restore point" -- the longest I timed so far is 90 minutes.

Laptops are notorious for have strange things pop up as OEMs modify drivers to suit their own purposes. Have you checked the Dell support site?

I tried to do so, but is seems that once you (me) modify ANYTHING from the "package as it comes from the factory" they cease to care or support it.

That may be the case if you talk to someone but you should still be able to check using the Dell Service Tag.

Windows Defender is/was an anti-malware, spyware program, not an AV. Not very well received so it seems.
Comodo being a third party AV, anti-malware product, along with a lot of others.
